What is ASTYM?
"Astym® (A-stim) treatment sets the standard for soft tissue therapy. It regenerates healthy soft tissues (muscles, tendons, etc.), and removes unwanted scar tissue that may be causing pain or movement restrictions. Astym® treatment has helped countless patients by restoring movement, getting rid of pain," and improving overall muscle patterns.

What is Dry Needling?
Dry needling (DN) utilizes a very thin filament needle, which is similar to that used in acupuncture. However, DN is not considered acupuncture and is based on Western physiologic approaches. The needle is inserted into specifically designated locations depending on the individual and their injury. It is often times inserted into a trigger point, which will elicit a local twitch response to allow the muscle to relax. DN is thought to work by disrupting a reflex arc of contracted tissue as well as stimulating biochemical changes to allow improved blood flow and increased healing to the area. Furthermore, we are able to reach deeper tissues not accessible by hand. For more information, please click on the link to see various research articles. www.spinalmanipulation.org/research

"TOPS" notch standards to deliver you the BEST CARE:
TOPS Physical Therapy & Osteopractics sets a high standard, with all of their staff being trained in the following:

Astym treatment is a favorite therapy that regenerates healthy soft tissues (muscles, tendons, etc.), and eliminates or reduces unwanted scar tissue that may be causing pain or movement restrictions. Astym treatment is highly effective and even works when other approaches routinely fail. One of the main reasons Astym treatment is so much more effective than other treatments is that it was scientifically developed to resolve the underlying cause of soft tissue problems, rather than just trying to temporarily relieve symptoms. It is one of the most researched and effective tool-assisted therapy treatments available. Astym treatment is unmatched in its ability to resolve tendinopathies, scar tissue problems, and other soft tissue dysfunctions. Doctors regularly recommend Astym treatment specifically for their patients and elite athletes for superior results.

Gary Gray 3D Chain Reaction functional movement. The body must be able to move in 3 planes of motion (Sagittal, Frontal, and Transverse Planes). When a movement is occurring, certain muscles are working in synergy concentrically and eccentrically to harmoniously perform function. T.O.P.S. philosophy is that most people are dominant in the sagittal plane and lack strength in both the frontal and transverse planes. By recognizing these deficits, patient/athletes can return to their activity or sport with reduced risk of re-injury occurrence.

Mr. Bohls and Dr. Brannon have developed an ACL return-to-play protocol that measures a patient/athlete's functional strength in all 3 planes of motion. It also measures the patient/athlete's ability to produce force and absorb force in both the sagittal and frontal planes. A patient/athlete is not able to return to sport/activity until over 98% of function compared to contralateral LE is restored. A similar program has been designed for UCLR as well.

As is exemplified above, our staff is second to none, and we believe in a strong manual, hands-on based clinic, where patients receive attentive one-on-one physical therapy for faster, more effective and lasting results.
